SCiO-NL January 2022 online meeting (in English) - Privacy and a stable society: a king-size dilemma brought forward by computer technology

In Washington D.C., in January of 1970, Stafford Beer gave a presentation to the Committee on Science and Astronautics of the House of Representatives of the United States of America, which at that time was the highest such committee in the U.S. The talk was called “Managing Modern Complexity” and can be found in the book “Platform for Change”. The presentation shows incredible foresight: Beer mentions both the loss of privacy that threatens us today as well as the information crisis in which we are overwhelmed by an ever growing amount of data.

In this meeting, after a short summary of “Managing Modern Complexity”, we will discuss its relevance in today’s world as well as possible questions it may raise.
